Reporting to the Manager of Infection Prevention and working under general supervision assists in the coordination of an integrated and comprehensive plan for infection surveillance, prevention, control and process improvement throughout the organization. Objectively and systematically assesses, monitors, evaluates and improves the processes that affect the quality of patient care, ensuring compliance with MacNeal Hospital's mission, vision and values, medical staff by-laws, rules and regulations, policies and regulatory standards. Serves as a clinical resource to improve patient outcomes. Supports the department Manager in accomplishing the strategic initiatives of the organization.

Qualifications:

Level of knowledge normally acquired through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in Nursing; master’s degree highly desirable. Will consider healthcare providers with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in related fields such as epidemiology, microbiology, infectious disease or medical technology with the appropriate experience and credentials.

Current certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred or CIC eligible.

Minimum of two (2) years experience in an acute care setting as an Infection Control Provider or Medical Technologist with a minimum of two (2) years experience in microbiology.

Basic understanding of epidemiological and statistical methods is required.

The ability to effectively communicate with staff at all levels throughout the organization.

Strong customer service, leadership and organizational skills.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Independent, self-motivated, innovative and detail oriented.

Analytical ability necessary to assist with complex patient care situations and interpretation of data.

Clinical knowledge to review and interpret medical records based upon the documentation of caregivers.

Thorough knowledge of the clinical care of patients.

Familiarity with regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Excellent computer skills including advanced use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
